Fusion, Escape Hit All Time Highs
FordInsideNews
April 2, 2013

Typically one the best volume months for the US market, March is seen as one of the keystone months for automakers to report sales. Ford reported today a nearly 6-% increase over March 2012. Ford brand sales were up 6.9%, but continued low availability of the MkZ hurt Lincoln sales for another month as sales fell 22.5-%.

March 2013 turned out to be a great month for the all-new Fusion and Escape, both of which hit all time sales records. This marks the first time the Fusion has seen sales above the 30,000 units mark. Elsewhere in the Ford brand, the Explorer recorded sales of 18,599 units. That is a record for the Explorer since the new model debuted.

Ford truck sales increased 6.0-% overall. Leading the way was of course the F-Series, which recorded a rise of 16.3-% for over 67,500 units. Ford notes the full-size truck market is up as a whole indicating an improving economy. Transit Connect also saw a sales gain of 22.9-%.

Due to the late widespread availability of the Lincoln MkZ in March, the brand's sales once again fell 22.5-%. We should note that all of Lincoln's models fell with it.

Explorer is selling like gangbusters! 17,000 + 1,000 for the police! Is this now the best selling vehicle with three-rows?

Great sales month for Ford.

Did you all see the bad numbers for Chevrolet - essentially flat in sales - artificially propped up by fleet sales from the Captiva. Sales growth is only coming from the addition of the Spark. Malibu sales are horrific and this will only get worse as the new Impala comes online. Fleet sales will continue with the addition of the fleet-only current Impala.

The strategy of saving Buick and propping up Cadillac is failing. Buick is not getting any traction from current models and over at Cadillac the new models are killing existing models.

Lincoln may be a joke right now, but considering how much money Government Motors has thrown at Buick and Cadillac over the past several years, the results have been very mediocre.

Look for very bad profit numbers from Government Motors as bread and butter products are tanking and are now being forced to cut prices to compete - while over at Ford the transaction prices are increasing - the profits are up and the rebates are down. Those doubting Thomases who thought the Escape was priced too high are looking silly now. People will pay for a premium product if it is well executed. When you compare the Escape to the Equinox, the Equinox looks like an old Hyundai.
