Fusion Hits with a Bang
FordInsideNews
March 1, 2012

Seemingly to reverse lost ground from not producing enough vehicles last year, Ford again gained market share in February as total sales rose 9-%. This made it the best February for Ford since 2007. Ford will continue its momentum as it plans to increase production by 9-% in the second quarter.

Leading the effort were the Escape and Fusion, both of which saw their best February sales ever. The F-Series and Explorer also saw their best sales since 2006.

The C-Max hybrid and Energi saw another stellar month with sales over 3,000 units. Other vehicles to see increases were the Transit Connect, Heavy Trucks, and Taurus.

Lincoln sales once again fell on low inventory of the all-new MkZ. MkZ production was back up to normal during February, so expect sales to improve in March and April.

The Lincoln portion of that report is...tragic.

I know the MKZ got held up, but if the report still looks like this a couple months from now...Lincoln is in a very bad spot.

Nothing warms my heart more than seeing Ford crush Chevrolet in the bread and butter segments. The Fusion is making the Chevrolet Camry look like a laughing stock - well - it is.

^ agree "tragic"
can't believe the numbers will stay this way when dealers have some Z's to sell

&
happened to notice a very simple URL structure for Ford's sales.pdf's
& OMG, could modify the filename to get many of the past reports I was missing

ex:
http ://media.ford.com/images/10031/Sept11sales.pdf
http ://media.ford.com/images/10031/May10sales.pdf
http ://media.ford.com/images/10031/October09sales.pdf
http ://media.ford.com/images/10031/dec08sales.pdf

(apparently they spelled out the month for Feb'09-Aug'10)
but
this one didn't work for any spelling of the month:
http ://media.ford.com/images/10031/NOV09sales.pdf
edit ^^ FOUND IT ^^
Ford themselves mis-spelled it

"Lincoln sales once again fell on low inventory of the all-new MkZ. MkZ production was back up to normal during February, so expect sales to improve in March and April."

Lincoln's poor sales record is not simply a supply problem with the MKZ. There is already a huge demand problem with the MKS and the MKZ will fare no better when they finally hit the dealers' floors. After the Super Bowl ads, interest in the MKZ spiked only modestly. With no inventory in showrooms, customers went in another direction. They are not waiting for MKZs to arrive.

As long as Lincoln's are - model for model - merely hand-me-up Fords, they will not appeal to the discerning, knowledgeable luxury car buyer that they say they desire.

The disastrous launch of the new MK Z will mark the end of the road for the Lincoln brand. The new car must be in the dealers by december. 3 months later is too late. Lincoln is dead
