EcoSport turning into a world warrior

Though first quarter’s sales growth was impressive, Ford’s second quarter growth of a whopping 16 percent globally far outpaced it. Across every region within the company, sales in the second quarter grew and grew enough for every region, even Europe, to show a rise in sales year-to-date.

North America

Sales in Ford’s home continent rose over 100,000 units compared to the year before in Q2. This was largely due to the US market where F-Series sales are quickly rising. Other vehicles leading the charge included the Fiesta and Fusion. Canadian and Mexican sales continue to be stagnant.

Europe

Bucking the industry trend, Ford sales rose in the recession-ridden Old World. With 32k units over the same period last year, it allowed the company to post a market share increase. New products like the B-Max, Transit Custom, and facelifted Fiesta should keep sales up until other new products like the Transit and Transit Connect hit lots.

South America

Sales in Brazil, the largest market on the continent, rose for Ford thanks to the EcoSport and the new Fiesta. The Fiesta has quickly risen to be the 5th best selling vehicle in Brazil. The new Fusion has also allowed for sales to grow by around a 3rd for the nameplate. The all-new EcoSport is also helping Argentine sales.

Asia Pacific and Africa

Saying the new EcoSport is a success in this region would be an understatement. After launching in China and becoming the one of the best-selling vehicles in its class, the EcoSport launched into India during the second quarter with great results. The sub-compact CUV has now started outselling the similar priced Renault Duster and dealers have been forced to stop taking orders on certain trim levels due to the overwhelming demand. EcoSport sales in the region will continue to grow as exports to South Africa and Thai production begin.

Also during the second quarter, Ford of Australia unsurprisingly announced the end of local production on the continent due to falling sales of the Falcon. To compensate, Ford of Oz and New Zealand will launch a number of new products like that of the new EcoSport.

Markets included in the second quarter of 2013 are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Vietnam Many thanks to Best Selling Cars for adding markets.

Ecosport sales performance right out of the gate like that is amazing! I was not a fan of the first few pictures I saw, but it certainly has grown on me.

Question, why are the S-Max and Galaxy grouped in the sales charts?

19.Ford S-Max/Galaxy - 18,427

I was under the impression that they were two distinct vehicles. Are they related? Closely enough to count as 1?

Galaxy is essentially a higher roof version of the S-Max.

Hi Paul!
(public-)Welcome to FiN!

gotta ask
Has Ford REALLY marketed those two so that even a carguy like you doesn't automatically know they're on the same platform / almost twins? ...one sexy-sleek, one stodgy-zaftig
(would a reference to "identical cousins" date me terribly?)

since my first'n'only exposure to them is from web-info (where it's practically de rigeur to point out the relationship), I have no way to judge from a potential buyer's viewpoint

They do hide it very well. You have to look for it and do some research for sure.
