GM's future product challenge
AutoNews: Future Product Guide

July 20, 2014

General Motors’ product cadence has officially escaped the post-bankruptcy doldrums.
Now the challenge is to keep it humming.

You’ll get a sense of GM’s strategy and prospects by reading the first installment of Automotive News’ annual future product series in this week’s Automotive News.
We’ll tell you what you can expect from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC through 2018.

It’s all part of a rollout that should see an average of 26 percent of GM’s lineup replaced over the next two model years, according to John Murphy, a Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst. That compares with an industry average of 21 percent.

If that doesn’t seem like much of an edge, consider this: In 2012 and 2013, GM’s replacement rate was 9 percent -- half the industry average.

And whatever advantage GM holds, it may be short-lived. Murphy’s forecast has GM slipping behind the industry average after the 2016 model year.

So check out our July 21 print and digital editions. You can also stay updated on GM’s and its rivals’ product plans year-round by bookmarking our Future Product Pipeline at autonews.com/futureproduct

That ATS coupe just looks weird from the end of the drivers door back..

Maybe it's the giant red break light that looks like it fell down. Or the back side window that should not angle up but flow with the lines of the deck lid. The back window should also be larger/longer.

Then it's the very heavy horizontal cut line at the rear, that then takes a dive toward the front of the car.

It seems clear that Max Wolfe was there to design the sedan, but GM was on their own with the coupe.

Example....Clean lines and aligned proportions......#1 seller.

Thats just a render of what someone with very little taste thinks may be a future ATC coupe refresh. Whomever it is has great photoshopping skills but poor design skills!

That is pretty rude of you, attacking someone else's hard work and style.

I think it looks fine, BTW.
Amazing, the usual sarcastic remarks minus the personal insults.
I bet it was killing you to not include the insults.

Or,
I see you edited your post, so perhaps you simply wised up.

You really make this to easy.

You guys can't help yourself. LOL!

Anyway, I like when Automotivenews does this every year about future product especially for Ford and Lincoln, their always typically in the last batch that they do. Their future product for Lincoln is really generic normally, they don't state info that hasn't been already annouced, I guess Ford keeps future Lincoln product tight lipped.

& more about the ATS - AutomotiveNews

New 2014
A coupe will be launched in late summer 2014. The coupe will ride on the same, 109.3-inch wheelbase as the sedan. But both its front and rear tracks are about 1 inch wider, with shorter overhangs and fenders that wrap snuggly around the standard 18-inch wheels (the sedan comes standard with 17-inch wheels). There are two powertrain options, identical to those of the sedan: a base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 272 hp and 295 pounds-feet of torque; and an optional 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 321 hp and 275 pounds-feet of torque. Cadillac says the coupe won't offer the 2.5-liter base engine that comes standard on the sedan.

Freshen 2015
A freshening of the base sedan is slated for the second half of 2015 as a ’16 model.

New 2015
A V-series sedan will debut in the second quarter of 2015, likely with GM’s new 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine. (A V-series coupe also is planned, but further out.)

Cadillac: Product, Other Fixes Coming; Patience Required - WardsAuto
Nov 25, 2014 David E. Zoia

...The to-do list is a long one ...("from six lines today to about a dozen in 2020")... an especially tall order for a brand de Nysschen says is “stuck in no-man’s land” at the moment...

...new flagship sedan, dubbed CT6, due next year.
That model will have all the refinement, technology and performance of a Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8, he promises, but will be sized and priced against lower-level, standard-wheelbase versions of those cars.

“It has to come now,... It is an important part of this journey of elevating the brand and building on credible product. If we want to really entrench Cadillac as a formidable player in the premium segment, it’s necessary to have flagship cars that can take on the very best the German brands have to offer.
(“I want to spend some time taking the center of gravity of the brand upscale.")

“What has to be recognized, though, is that when you enter the market at price points the brand has never seen and where you don’t have a single customer – everything has to be conquest. Your volume aspirations better be pretty realistic...

...On the drawing boards are a model below the ATS [ mistake ] in size, a CUV positioned between the next-generation SRX and truck-based Escalade [ Aviator ] meant to challenge the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 [ wut? ], and two smaller CUVs that would compete against the BMW X3 and Audi Q3 [ MKC ] and even more diminutive models such as the BMW X1 [ mistake ]...

...“We have one crossover and one SUV,” he adds. “...look how many the Germans have. This [ ie Cadillac ] is completely wrong. They are obvious gaps in our product lineup. We are working flat-out to develop market entries for Cadillac.”...

...meantime, the big play will be a [ CT7/8/9 ] model to come above the CT6 in size and price that will take on high-end S-Class and 7-Series models at the very upper reaches of the volume luxury market.
“That will be the ultimate flagship for Cadillac,” de Nysschen says. “That will be the real halo car for the brand...

...Hybrid powertrains also will have to play a bigger role in order to keep pace with the Germans, who continue to knock out new plug-in models for an eager audience. A PHEV CT6 is planned, and Cadillac likely will be patient with its Chevrolet Volt-based ELR, despite sales reaching only 1,037 units so far this year.
“We will have more than one PHEV,” de Nysschen says. “It’s going to be a big part of our powertrain strategy. If you don’t do that, you don’t play in China. So this is part of the new paradigm.”

...GM is targeting Cadillac sales in China to grow from an estimated 70,000 units this year to 150,000 in 2016, then double again to 300,000 annually in 2020...
...Maintaining inventories at the industry norm of 70-80 days’ supply is “exactly wrong for the Cadillac business,” he adds. “If you start incentivizing cars because you have to move volume, then you’ve (guaranteed) failure.”...
...[ re: NYC ] “It’s not that the people that are handling the business today don’t know what they’re doing,” de Nysschen says. “The problem is we’ve never given them the opportunity to really study the premium segment on its own. With the separation in organization, we’ll be applying the dedicated resources to do precisely that. Nobody at Mercedes, BMW or Audi work part time.”...
...De Nysschen told Bloomberg last week Cadillac will begin reporting its own financial results in 2017... [ imho/ie
He needs Cadillac to BOTTOM OUT now so the separate reporting LOOKS all positive ]
