GM will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales
It plans to report quarterly, as other retail sectors do

Autoblog-REUTERS
- Apr 3rd 2018

- - - - - - -

Media.GM.com/sales report, as in post#1
...Transition to Quarterly Sales Reporting
GM announced today it will begin reporting its U.S. vehicle sales on a quarterly basis, effective immediately. For 2018, second quarter sales will be released on July 3, third quarter sales on October 2 and fourth quarter sales on January 3, 2019.

“Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president, Sales Operations. “Reporting sales quarterly better aligns with our business, and the quality of information will make it easier to see how the business is performing.”

In the auto industry, monthly sales are subject to many issues that make them more volatile than quarterly sales, including product launch activity, weather, other seasonal factors, the number of selling days and incentive activity.
GM’s high level of transparency on total, brand and nameplate sales, fleet mix and inventory will not change. The company will also continue sharing J.D. Power PIN estimates for incentive spending and average transaction prices...

My wife just traded her 13 Escape Titanium for a Buick Encore Premium on 3/30. They have crazy money on them. $4,250 + $3,000 conquest cash. We checked out the Ecosport, and the back seat is stupid small. My wife could barely get out of the back seat after I adjusted the front seat for my 5' 10" self. Literally, she was almost stuck in there! I sat in the back of the Encore just fine, and my step son who is 6' 4" 280 rode in it the next day. March was the best month for the Encore ever.

I imagine Ford will follow GM's lead as well.
As if GM is Ford's only competitor?...............

Not sharing sale data allows others to drive the narrative of your message.........

Others share good/positive numbers, whil GM sits quietly in the corner, not saying a word, leaving everyone left to speculate..........

Gaining no (good) press while others share their successes...........

Must have been a heck of a month for Encore discounts; almost 7K more than last March.

In the future GM is going to hide these monthly gains, "too much noise" (their words, not mine)

I'm pretty sure it's about controlling the narrative which Ford also constantly struggles with in these monthly reports, now more than ever. Just recently they had to deal with the perceived failure of the Continental because of declining sales. So I'm absolutely certain GM will inspire others to follow.

well, talking about Conti outside the FL thread...
MARCH is just like a 1st-Qtr report so
I don't see how saying Lincoln is DOWN -17% (Ytd/now) is any better by holding the suspense since New Years

= so
I'm more agreeing with:

...Ford, "Louisville, which has recently been cranking out about 1,100 Ford Escape SUVs every day..."
..."Tesla is...paying a lot of people to be so inefficient:...
Using about 10,000 workers in the last week of March, Tesla cranked out 2,020 Model 3s at its Fremont, Calif., plant. That’s 289 vehicles per day, or 35 employees for every Model 3 coming off the line...
...Nissan, Tenn... about 5 workers per vehicle.
...Honda, Ont... roughly 3.5 people per car..."

Tesla in process...

The Cavalier is approaching the same age as the recently revealed Escort, which just got a refresh. I wonder what updates Chevrolet has for the Chinese Cavalier?
