what I'm just starting to wonder is WHO
in GM's largest market**
is going to buy a V-series ..... just to have their chauffer drive it?
"Slow down...I said SLOW DOWN!"

** CHINA per what I've read this week
It's not an either or situation is it? You can build cars to be driven and driven in.

yeah-sorta**
*IF* you make the front seat slide far-forward as well as far-back
tho
I can see the owner-passenger complaining about how hard the V-series rides

** imho there still might be the necessity of design-priority of
-- for driver OR
-- rearseat passenger

The owner-passenger customer doesn't purchase a Type-V car, nor do they buy an BMW-M branded vehicle, nor a performance oriented Benze, they buy the CT6 (or bigger), top 7-Series, or surely the S-Class. Maybe they even buy the Type-V for weekend fun, I don't know. I do know that one brand can serve both clients.

. . . part one
thinking of {RedPortfolio} as just a collection/listing/registry of Lincoln's top performers
maybe ALL the LincStangs** (tho leave the Track Day Specials for MusStang)
maybe only one version of some models

** no lame base engine

Hounded by competitors, the M3 makes its stand

[dislay04 @ GMI]: Re: C&D: ATS-V beats the C63S & M3 In Driving
"Cadillac has accomplished and mastersd the hardest part about the segment: driving dynamics and performance. As a drivers car it was picked hands down with no doubt over the M3 and C63S. They placed the Benz at #2 and the BMW at #1 solely due to interior space and the interior

Very very good for a 1st gen vehicle. Just gotta work on refining the tool set and interior for the next gen."

"So from what I understand it finished last?"

UPDATE
since I didn't read the article, just found the scoring:
1st: BMW M3 - 207 pts
2nd: AMG C63 S - 205 pts
3rd: ATS-V - 201 pts

imho
close enough to be MEANINGLESS/TIED

2016 Cadillac ATS-V leaves luxury rivals in dust

Detroit Free Press

By Mark Phelan
August 20, 2015

...A sweet 464-horsepower twin turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, magnetic ride control, Brembo brakes, carbon fiber and plenty more goodies distinguish it from the regular ATS coupes, which top out at 321 horsepower.
ATS-V coupe prices start at $62,665 for one with a six-speed manual transmission, rev matching and no-lift shift. An eight-speed automatic transmission costs $2,000.
...nicely equipped...stickered at $73,470...
...start at $60,465...

More... & micro-video

Fixing Cadillac's problem child
Price, trim adjustments coming for ATS in 2017

AutomotiveNews

Mike Colias - June 27, 2016

...its market share has declined every year since 2013.

A big part of the problem: Resale values have fallen steadily too, making it harder and more expensive for Cadillac to offer a competitive lease, crucial to success in the luxury market.

Even with bigger incentives that run higher than the segment average, the price of the ATS remains higher than the point "where consumers feel comfortable taking a chance on a Cadillac as opposed to the well-established luxury competitors," says Patrick Min, a senior industry analyst at ALG, a research company that monitors and projects vehicle values.

Now, Cadillac is trying to breathe new life into the ATS through a series of price and trim-package adjustments for the 2017 model year, which rolls out this summer. In short, ATS buyers will get a couple thousand dollars more value for their money than they did before.

Prices will be reduced between $650 and $1,100, depending on the trim level. And each model will get more content than it did before. For example, Cadillac is eliminating the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, leaving the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger as the standard engine (rated at 272 hp, more powerful than the 2.0-liter turbos offered in the BMW 328i and Mercedes C class), and the 3.6-liter V-6 as the top engine. Starting with the '17 model year, buyers of a 2.0-liter turbo with some popular add-ons, such as a Bose surround-sound audio system, will pay about the same price as the 2.5-liter sedan with those same features cost in the '16 model year...

...Making the 2.0-liter turbo the standard engine boosts the ATS' base price by about $1,500, to $35,590 including shipping. That's above the base price of the 3 series. The 2.5-liter accounted for more than 20 percent of sales.

But Tener believes that dangling greater value at each trim level will spur demand. And reducing the number of model and engine configurations to seven, from 16, will make it easier for dealers to stock the most popular combinations.

The ATS' sales woes in part reflect a four-year hangover from a poor launch strategy. Analysts and dealers say Cadillac priced the cars too high and overproduced them in the first two years. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen and his team have been struggling to right the ATS ever since, including dramatically reducing inventories and cutting back on incentives...

...ATS sales fell 23 percent this year through May, to 7,884. That shrank its market share in the compact luxury segment to 4.5 percent, from 4.9 percent, according to the Automotive News Data Center...
