According to PHH, the 2014 Fusion will start production at Flat Rock on September 3, 2013.

This is Great News! Now the Fusion will be able to match the production capacity of the Camry, Accord and Altima for the first time ever.

Currently at 100% capacity, Hermosillo Plant is able to produce 300,000 units annually. Which breaks down to 25,000 units monthly. Which is not enough to meet the demand for the US and Canada. Current Fusion daily inventory for the US struggles to maintain 20,000 average units, and selling all Ford can make.

But at the same time, the Camry maintains a daily average inventory of over 40,000 units, with inventory over 50k during the Toyota sales event. Honda and Nissan also maintains a daily average over 40,000 units, with current inventory over 45k each.

Flat Rock production is to increase Fusion output by 100,000 units annually over 8,000 units monthly. This will help Ford push Fusion sales to 400,000 units for 2013. Actually since Flat Rock production gets units to dealerships in Oct, it can only be depended on for about 25k units.

With current YTD sales of 107,280 for the US and 6,734 for Canada, and Hermosillo running at 100+% production capacity, Fusion is on target for over 340k units for 2013. But with additional units hitting dealerships in October from Flat Rock, Fusion sales can hit or exceed 365k units.

Ok, now coming back to reality. For Fusion to reach 400k sales for 2013, Ford would have to sell over 36k units each month until December.

That's a lot.......and not gonna happen!

But then again, to be #1 in the US for 2013, Ford may not really have to sell 400k units, since much of the sales volume will be conquest sales defecting from other brands like Altima, Accord and Camry.

Its exciting as a Ford fan and all, but I'm more interested in them being #1 in profit!! More profit means the purse strings can be loosened and more exciting, small volume vehicles could be built!!
