NEW DELHI, India — Ratan Tata has long lusted after Land Rover, a marque he considers the "ride of the Rajas." But when the deal is finally inked between Ford and Tata Motors to exchange the luxury Jaguar and Land Rover car brands, look for Jaguar to be quickly spun off, Indian sources tell Inside Line.

"This is just a nasty rumor. (TATA) will never sell (this) brand. They've said so"

I wonder if this has anything to do with the irrationally long time this transaction is taking to close?

Way do devalue a brand Tata.

It's an efficient way to lower the price on something you want to buy.

Tata knows Ford is near-desperate, despite any public posturing, to off-load the responsibility. Even with 10,000 deposits on the XF, there isn't enough in Jaguar for Ford or Tata to bank on anytime soon. Not with the massive investments required to redo the entire line.
