2014 BEIJING AUTO SHOW

DETROIT -- Lexus has published a preview of the 2015 Lexus NX luxury compact crossover, scheduled to debut April 20 at the 2014 China auto show in Beijing. The upcoming Lexus NX is meant to battle the likes of the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and it was previewed earlier in concept form as the LF-NX.

Lexus has once again gone from concept to production vehicle in record time, and if this teaser image is any indication, it has significantly toned town the design of the LF-NX concept -- no surprise there, though in this case it appears Lexus has ditched the angular design language almost entirely.

The NX is slated to go on sale in the fall of 2014 as a 2015 model, and will be positioned just below the RX in Lexus' model hierarchy. Lexus has remained without a sub-RX model longer than many other Japanese manufacturers with a significant presence in the U.S. market, and this new model is intended to take on offerings from Germany in this rapidly expanding segment.

The 2015 MKC will also be arriving in China in the fall, after launching in the US this summer.

Based on the Chinese market appreciation for less 'flashy' designs, but more upscale and clean designs, the MKC should do much better.

I saw a new IS the other day, and it looks fantastic in person.

Lexus is just trying to be unique in this crowded market. Not every design appeals to everyone.

The MKC is so much more pleasing to the eye and the design flows from one end to the other. More like a work of art.

Unlike with what we can see so far of the NX you don't know where to focus, with the front end screaming at you, along with all the deep creases and dents where it looks like it's been in an accident.

Similar to the Cadillac 'in your face' design language.

I expect the new MKX due next year to be a bigger version of the MKC, with a fully integrated duel exhaust. Maintaining the lower/wider design(MKC vs Escape) than it's Edge sibling.

"When it goes on sale, the NX will be offered with a 220-horsepower gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain consisting of a small electric motor and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and a brand new gas-burning 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine fed with a turbocharger. Power will be sent to either the front or all four wheels via an automatic transmission."

Ford/Lincoln had better get moving with it's new AWD hybrid drivetrain if they plan do well in California, with the NX arriving in 2015 with hybrid.

Mercedes is also bringing a C-Class plug-in hybrid with 31 EV miles, along with Audi and BMW. So where is the MKZ plug-in hybrid?? Ford was first at the plug-in hybrid game, but Lincoln may be last on the field.

It's also time for Energi models to upgrade to 31 EV miles from 21.

Another ugly Lexus. Color me shocked.

I'm not sure what it is Lexus doesn't get but there is in fact a very large area between vanilla and f'cking hideous that they should be aiming for!

They put that ugly humongous grill on the LS and sales are down over 30%. Stuck it on the RX and sales are down 1% so far and certain to drop more rapidly once the MKC is launched.

Here is another image from Carscoops. There are few more images there also.

Those are some serious black wheel arch moldings and giant black side mirrors.
