Lincoln focusing on China, not interested in Europe

Putting an end to a long-standing rumor, Ford's Lincoln division has confirmed it is not planning on entering the European market in the near future.

Rival Cadillac is in the midst of expanding its European arm, but Lincoln will not follow suit because the luxury market in Europe is still depressed so the automaker would likely not see a significant return on its investment. Additionally, Lincoln lacks a brand image on the Old Continent and it doesn't have access to a family of potent turbodiesel engines.

The troubled automaker will instead try to boost its global profits by focusing on the lucrative Chinese market. Executives have confirmed the MKX concept that was presented last month at the Beijing Motor Show will be added to the company's lineup in both the United States and in China. The production version of the crossover could debut either at next November's Los Angeles Motor Show or at next year's Detroit Motor Show.

The brand needs more products and at the same time being more upscale, it would be suicide to sell them in Europe right now. Now, we need future product info!

True. Here's another reason too why Lincoln won't be sold in Europe... they're launching their Vignale luxury range.
With Vignale they are effectively launching Lincoln in Europe which itself highlights the problem with Lincoln at this point.

True, its like a Lincoln minus the skin.

They'd have better chances if they came up with something like a production MKR to further differentiate it from Ford.

just-imho
'Vignale' is more Mercurial than Lincolnesque** (yeah so's Lincoln
)
even...
anyone know if they've annouced/shown more than Mondeos?
...to the point of offering Vignale 5-doors (M.wagon ^&^ M.hatch)((see Mision:2020))
&
if Vignale turns out to be just-a-trim**, wonder if it could mercurially disappear without warning or fanfare?

** any important difference globally imho is that so far I haven't heard anything about Vignale eventually including things like a 400hp Nano...

I recall talk about the service end of the Black Label also going with the Vignale vehicles so it's more than a simple trim package.

One advantage to Ford simply trying to take Ford upmarket with Vignale rather than a premium stand alone brand is they won't have to do the exclusivity dance that goes on here.

It's the fact that this isn't Lincoln's history that makes the current situation so frustrating. There was a time when Lincoln was the best of the best rather than good enough.
