Lincoln’s replacement for the current MKZ will debut in concept form at the 2012 Detroit auto show this January, we’ve learned from two sources inside Ford. Lincoln’s new design director, Max Wolff, arrived from Cadillac with enough time to influence the MKZ’s styling, which is described as clearly evolved from the current design language, rather than a radical departure. The 2013 MKZ will ride on a new platform, which also will underpin the next Ford Fusion (spy photos of which can be seen here) and its European counterpart, the Mondeo. Like the Fusion, the next MKZ will continue to use a front-wheel-drive platform, and likely will again offer optional all-wheel drive. Having proven popular with the current car, a hybrid version will again be offered to supplement a range of V-6 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

With Mercury’s mercy-killing last year, Ford is finally committing resources and personnel to rebuilding Lincoln into a brand that garners respect outside the nursing-home parking lot. To that end, enthusiasts would like to see some kind of bad-ass Lincoln sports sedan based on the Australian-market rear-wheel-drive Ford Falcon, but while we’re told that’s not out of the question in the very, very long term, Lincoln’s not yet strong enough to pull multi-billion-dollar development budgets out of the Ford coffers. To get there, it will need solid base hits, and that appears to be exactly what the company is aiming for with the 2013 MKZ.

We expect production-version Mk2 of the MKZ to debut later in 2012 at one of the spring shows in Chicago or New York, or possibly at November’s L.A. extravaganza.

riiight - the current Z is obviously only an MCE away from looking like a Jaguar or AstonMartin [sarcasm]

...a hybrid version will again be offered to supplement a range of V-6 and turbocharged four-cylinder engines...
& turbo-v6!!!

With Mercury’s mercy-killing last year...
I've got "mercy" available for any Fomoco exec that wants some

imho re: ANYthing Fomoco 'says'...it applies to Today, only TODAY

Lincoln posted MotorAuthoritah's version on
Lincoln's own fb site

"A front-wheel drive layout will remain, as will the choice of a V-6 engine or hybrid option combining a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor."

slight difference ^

edit
another one
Leftlane
"...The next MKZ is expected to arrive with a wide variety of powertrain options, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a more powerful V6 and a fuel-sipping hybrid. All-wheel drive is expected to remain on the MKZ’ option list..."

I'm still counting on a 2.7EB!

You guys are killing me hanging on to every word. A rendering of the MKZ is shown and it is B-O-R-I-N-G. Read between the lines guys, evolutionary means you can't tell that it's been changed. So, what influence did our new leader have on the thing? The hubcabs?? Wouldn't it be more efficient to just get Hyuandai to do the design work. They may be too busy assisting Honda, Toyota and Nissan. Those guys are even more stale in design than we are now......
Anyway, we have got to come out RUNING to make a difference. Don't we get it. This is not a Hollywood marriage. We are NOT going to get another do over to try to bring Lincoln back AGAIN.

That rendering was not from Ford. John McElroy saw the new MKZ and said it looks great and its a dramatic change from the current model.

It looks like they took all their designs from plug-in air fresheners and soap dispensers...no thanks.

I really hope that this new MKZ styling is a big departure from the current one. Even if the new Fusion is as amazing as many people have described it, Lincoln cannot get away by just putting their grille on it. Their technology packages are going to be class leading no doubt, but they need to have a design that makes a positive statement for the company. More 1st gen. CTS than MKT.

According to John McElroy he said there is a huge difference between the new Fusion and MKZ.

I'm expecting it to look like a production version of the MKR Concept. I hope Lincoln won't disappoint me.
I'm hoping the nextgen MKZ makes the MKR Concept look a HUNDRED years old!

yet I also hope it isn't so extreme it turns off a "regular" Lux-midsize buyer :yikes:
while still having a heavy dose of Sci-Fi

guess what I really want is for it to look (& BE) better than anything I can imagine myself
(& imho I've got a formidable imagination
)
