Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 4:32 PM EDT

An announcement of a new vehicle line at Ford Motor Co.'s Louisville Assembly Plant might come as soon as next month, Louisville Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson said Thursday.

He made the comment during a morning news conference that was called to address speculation about the possible sale of General Electric Co.'s Louisville-based appliance unit...

...As part of a four-year master agreement reached last November between Ford and the United Auto Workers, Ford said it would build a flexible body shop and bring production of a new vehicle to Louisville Assembly Plant by 2011....

...Louisville Assembly Plant, which employs about 2,000 hourly and 140 salaried workers, currently makes the Ford Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Mercury Mountaineer.
