Imho the new 'Bu is very attractive & looks a good enough to be in a higher priced category

I'm not taking anything away from FML's midsizers by saying this,
as I hope everyone agrees:
there's a difference betwn Competitor and Enemy & GM ain't the Enemy!

Anyway, just thought this car is too important not to have a portal-thread for it.

I agree that the Malibu is very important and very good looking. Great profile, good rear end, but only so-so front end styling. Not a big fan of that Impala/Malibu/Aveo styled grill. The interior seems to be where all the excitement is for GM fans. I have not seen it up close, but the pics look mostly good. I am not a fan of some of the color variations either. Overall, GM has a hit on it's hands that will unfortunately steal right from Impala sales. All good though.

How funny, I like the front end better than the rear. I just don't understand what they were thinking when they designed the rear end.
As for cannibalizing the Impala sales, that will probably be the case but also is paving the way to a better looking RWD Impala which will solve the conflict.

I hope this one does better than the previous Malibu, which was supposed to be "the last Coke in the dessert".

This vehicle is by far much better looking than anything on the market or slotted to hit, in my opinion. The only problem is that GM will not give it two things it desparately needs to play.. Bluetooth and Touchscreen Navigation
Here are pictures for comparison

I don't think that using a camouflaged picture of the Accord is fair.

I think that the Fusion looks much better. That big thick bar in the middle of the grill with the little logo looks kind of awkward and weak.

And the rear end is just dreadful. Like a bad copy of the old style BMW 3 series.

The sides are very elegant but a little too much reminiscent of a VW Jetta.

I think the outgoing Fusion still looks better on the exterior. The Malibu may have it beat on the interior, but only for a short while as the Fusion upgraded interior really takes it up a notch.

Also, I hear that DVD/Navigation sales in cars in this segment are nill anyway, so I doubt that Malibu sales will suffer too much. Percentage wise, I seem to recall low teens for cars sold with them. People don't seem to want to spend that kind of money. I know I don't, as Google map is far easier to use and print;)

The rear looks excellent. It looks soo much better than anything on the market today!!!

As far as Accord is concerned, I could not find another picture to better illustrate it from the from. I personally like the Malibu profile than that of the fusion. I have not seen the malibu in person, so that could change.

I'm interested in seeing how this thing sells. It scored the highest ever rating at consumer focus groups...and they were shown the latest competition as well. All participants marked that they thought it was a $40,000 vehicle.

However consumer focus groups have not always been an indicator of sales.

If you haven't seen the Accord sedan undisguised, how can you like the Malibu better?
SobeSVT, I do not like what I see thats why:D

It will easily outsell the Fusion, thats for sure. Especially since the current impala is almost catching up to Accord and Camry.

I am not so sure the Malibu will "easily" outsell the older Fusion, but if they do it will have to do so quickly as the new Fusion is right around the corner. The Imapala sales have been great, greatly boosted by huge fleet sales too. Could you explain why you think that fact will help the Malibu "especially" outsell the Fuision? One thing will be certain, the Impala non-fleet sales will suffer greatly because of the Malibu. The Malibu is a newer and fresher design, and very similar in size.

Impala is SUPPOSE to be hurt by the new Malibu. They are finally ditching the two midsizer lineup. They want the Malibu to eat up Impala sales so when the Zeta Impala arrives they won't be screwed out of midsizer sales.

I don't know if it will outsell the Fusion or not. I've heard the advertising for the new Malibu is going to be uber aggressive (tv spots, magazines, newspaper, radio, the works). With $100 Million just for the first year...it better be good. Marketing has a lot to do with sales...

Won't the Malibu be able to be produced in greater numbers then the CD3 cars?

AFAIK Fomoco sells all the Fusion&friends they build without problem (& without taking Hermosillo to 3 shifts [which can invite other problems])
They are retooling the G6 plant in Orion to be -able- to build the 2008 Malibu alongside the G6 if they have to. I don't know the exact capacity numbers, but I believe it is say to say they will have the capability to produce 50-75% more 2008 Malibu's than the current Malibu.

I hope GM and the new Fusion can do away with import domination. Based on Aura reviews, this Malibu is going to do well

Consumer groups used by the North American auto-manufacturers have not been of much help, I'd say.
Maybe too much filtering is done by info adjusters to suit the beancounters or something of that nature.

Hmm, I haven't decided if I like it or not. It looks decent, but
I can't say i'm crazy about it. I don't hate it, and I think it has what
it takes to sell, definetely an improvement from the previous Malibu.
Quite impressed with the interior- if they get their marketing right, it's
a potential hit.

Can you say
MALIBU IS A WINNER without navigation

I never thought in my short life, this day would come, when a Chevy Sedan looked more classy. An american Sedan looked better than a Japanese Equivalent. I can hardly wait for the new Fusion to come, then it will be really great!!!
