Matthew McConaughey to appear in new Lincoln MKX ads

Detroit Free Press | August 18, 2015

U.S. dealers should have full inventory by September and a shipment of 250 Lincoln MKXs is on a boat to China

Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey will be featured in a new ad campaign for the 2016 Lincoln MKX mid-size crossover that is in U.S. dealerships and en route to consumers in China.

McConaughey will continue to be the face of Ford's luxury brand in a new campaign that debuts Sept. 12 and broadcast plans include National Football League games, said John Emmert, group marketing manager for Lincoln.

The actor first appeared in a Lincoln ad in September 2014 and his laid-back musings led to a number of high-profile parodies that generated even more attention. Lincoln benefitted; sales for the brand increased 25% a month after the first ads debuted.

For the MKX, the ads have a new tone, Emmert said. "They are not as introspective. They dial up the swagger factor."

The focus is more on the technology and beauty of the vehicle, Emmert said.

Lincoln sold 24,000 MKXs in each of the last two years. The expectation is sales will increase with the new model that is all-new and much improved in how it rides, steers, brakes and looks.

Production of models for sale began in June and dealerships should be well stocked in early September, Emmert said.

The 2016 MKX has more technology, with a suite of driver-assist systems, adaptive lighting and an auto hold button that keeps the vehicle from moving without having to hold the foot on the brake, said Chief Engineer John Polasek. But if you want the Sync 3, the latest infotainment system, you have to wait for the 2017 model year.

Engine choices include the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 tweaked to get more horsepower than it gets in the F-150 pickup, or the 3.5-liter V6. Later this fall Lincoln will add adaptive steering that makes the car more responsive at highway speeds and requires less effort to steer at slow speeds. It will be the first Ford vehicle with the improved steering system.

The MKX is is targeted at middle-aged couples with kids and competes with the Cadillac SRX, Lexus RX and the Infiniti QX70, Emmert said..

Lincoln has been successful in bringing the average age of its buyers from 65 to 55 in the last decade, Emmett said, but that is still older than the luxury segment average of 53 years of age.

The MKX is built exclusively in Oakville, Ontario, alongside its Ford counterpart, the Edge. A shipment of 250 MKXs just left for China for a fall launch of the vehicle.

At first I thought....oh no!

Then there was this part...

"For the MKX, the ads have a new tone, Emmert said. "They are not as introspective. They dial up the swagger factor."

All better now...:joyous:

I think Matt is good for Lincoln, not sure Lincoln is good for Matt. I really liked the tone of their ads more than the message, the slick production and atmosphere work for me.

As for Sync 3, I thought it was coming to the 2016 Edge, which would theoretically mean Sync 3 is arriving alongside in the middle of it's 2016 MKX MY. The Job 1/Job 2 date for that is somewhere in October/November.

It didn't? Garnered a massage amount of attention and press. I'd call that a success.
By attention you mean jokes? I guess any press is good press, unless they're pointing out the similarities to the Ford platform mate. The MKC averages around 2.5k per month, much less then it's direct competition, I would hardly call the ads a success. The MKX will be a better gauge because we have prior sales numbers to compare to, will the far superior product and an actor add up to an increase in monthly sales or not?

I've never been a fan of the celebrity spokesperson ad. I have a hard time taking advice from a group who collectively do stupid **** like put out videos in support of the Iran nuclear deal, as if these fools know a good deal from bad. They do it because they're all up in Obama's jock, not because they have the first clue. Matt does the ad because he's paid handsomely, not because he drove Lincoln's before it was cool, and every ad viewer knows that.

Lmao can we please keep politics out of a discussion surrounding a car commercial?

Those Lincoln "jokes" poked a lot more fun at Matthew than the car. The car looked great in every shot. In every joke.

I dont like this actor for Lincoln ads. I prefer someone more glamorous like George Clooney, Charlize Theron, Lupita N'yongo, Hally Berry... Even Jhon Hamm is better for Lincoln

Haven't you ever heard the expression...."How can you tell if somebody is a Republican? Don't worry, they'll tell you!"

interesting (visually) video, Jose :thumb:+Thanks
&
what are the sculpture gizmos?

are they supposed to be a representation of what they people thought/said about the X?
if so
did they explain what the criteria were?
& how they changed the shape??
yeah the sculpture is a representation of what the people thought and felt while they drove the X.
No criteria were explained but basically the shape changed depending on how the people felt while driving the X.
