MKZ Design vs. the Aftermarket

Hey guys, for fun I looked into what kind of custom wheels people have installed on their MKZs. I must admit, I feel as though a few have really freshened the car's design for me. It looks... dare I say... pretty badass. I would absolutely consider an MKZ now, knowing that I could put on some wheels I prefer without looking like too much of a doofus.

I don't think any of them look as good as the BL wheels. Of the three I like the second white MKZ best as its not so overtly sporty. The MKZ is a classy design and IMO doesn't look as good with race looking wheels as it does with a classier design.

Agreed, they are sweet. However, I am a sucker for slightly wider wheels with a little depth. That's my only turn off with the BL wheels. Too flat.

Everybody's on their own with aftermarket goodies for Lincoln.

I'll believe Ford is committed to Lincoln when I see aftermarket specialists exhibiting Lincolns at SEMA.

Ford's keeping all the excitement at the mainstream brand, proof that Ford still thinks of Lincoln as the cars/trucks that Ford buyers will age out/up into.

So much for conquest sales.

I have to disagree. It's that their taking Lincoln down a different path. Why promise performance if you want to make a brand pure luxury? Why trick them out for SEMA when you can bring them to places like... PEBBLE BEACH!

Ya don't see Fords at the Concours d'Elegance, iirc.

I wish the MKZ did offer a nice 5 spoke tho like the 17in ones on the 06 LS

I take your point, gjrip but IMO the folks who go to the Concours d'Elegance are looking to be excited by cars that cost well north of $100K, or cars that are unique, bespoke and perhaps unattainable. Until Lincoln is allowed to differentiate themselves from Ford, I submit that when a Lincoln shows up at a Concours d'Elegance, you do see a Ford.

This is an aftermarket thread that you started, gjrip. Without really cool cars to offer (just sedans, CUVs & SUVs - all based on Fords), how will Lincoln attract new, younger conquest customers without offering paths to customization and individualization? How do you create excitement around Lincoln? How do you get younger people with money (they're out there) to think Lincoln is cool? Matthew McConaughey? Really?

Already, there are folks right here on FIN who want wheels that are not stock (You?). Next, they might want to lower their MKZ or MKX, add a splitter or (heaven forbid) even a spoiler, paint a matte finish color; not for performance but for looks, to be different, to stand out.

BTW, marques that have had cars shown at SEMA:

Range Rover
Rolls Royce
Audi
Bentley
Lexus
BMW
Mercedes Benz
Jaguar

... Just sayin'.
