Navistar International Corp. said Wednesday it has filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Co. for breaching a contract to build an engine for Ford's F-150 pickup truck.

In a news release, Warrenville, Ill.-based Navistar said it believes Ford plans to produce a new 4.4 liter diesel engine that was designed by International Truck and Engine Corp., Navistar's principal operating company. International was contracted to make those engines for Ford, the release said.

Navistar said it is seeking "at least hundreds of millions of dollars" in damages.

Ford officials were not immediately available for comment. This lawsuit is separate from litigation that was reported earlier this year, when Ford sued Navistar seeking payment of what it says are unpaid warranty claims associated with Navistar's 6.0-liter Power Stroke engines.
