Next BMW X1 moving to smaller, lighter FWD-biased platform

BMW's decision to make the upcoming 2-Series Active Tourer front-wheel drive has been polarizing to say the least, but like it or not, that is the direction the company will go in the near future – one rumor put the number as high as 23 front-wheel-drive models for Mini and BMW combined. The next-generation X1 won't send all its power to the front wheels, though, when it launches in early 2016. While it will use the same platform as the Active Tourer, rumors suggest all models will use all-wheel drive – at least at launch.

BMW enthusiasts won't be happy, but then again, the smaller vehicles are more "I bought this for the name" sort of deals.

Are they *sure* this is an X1??
(couldn't it be yet a NOTHER new semi-segment?)
I sat in an X1 at last year's local autoshow-simulacrum

and it was more like a little trucklet/EcoSport-with-lipstick

(and I uselssly triny rear "seating" compartment
)
imho
this pic looks much more car-like

note: I'm grouchy about puter problems, not useless BMW's

I said quite a while back that we would see the big three premium brands moving in this direction on their bottom end. I think that it is happening bodes well for Lincoln's choices on their bottom end, they will be competitive, class leading is come cases possibly, but most importantly they'll be platform correct! Now Lincoln, fix the middle to upper end of your range!!
