Porsche developing Macan plug-in hybrid

Porsche kicks off production of the new Macan SUV at its freshly-expanded Leipzig facility, the company has slowly disclosed more details about its future plans for the platform.

Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller suggests the company is currently developing a wide range of variants. While many will focus on performance upgrades, following the strategy embraced with the 911, Cayenne and other offerings, the Macan is also expected to get a plug-in hybrid edition and a cheaper entry-level model.

The platform already promises to deliver competitive fuel economy, especially in diesel form. The Macan S Diesel, headed for the US and other markets, is expected to produce 240 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque, with highway fuel efficiency likely reaching 31mpg or higher.

If Lincoln wants to fully integrate the Green Label line, the MKC seems like the logical choice for a hybrid crossover.
I am sure that is the plan. The only reason there is no Escape hybrid was that the new AWD hybrid system was not ready. It's the same system that's needed for the Edge Hybrid, which should be available by MY2016 at the latest. Not to confuse this system with the RWD hybrid system for big trucks and SUVs that for says will be available before 2020, that Ford initially started development with Toyota.
