Re: pre-Autoshow speculation thread

Here's Lincoln.

2015 MKC and ?- 2013 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance
Nothing- 2013 LAIAS
2015 MKX and/or ?-2014 NAIAS
2015 Navigator and/or ?- 2014 Chicago
2015 MKS and/or ?- 2014 NYIAS

I wonder if they'll show a concept of one of those Mustang based Lincolns. :toetap:

Re: pre-Autoshow speculation thread

I enjoy Fall with its cooler weather, football, U.S. Open Tennis and of course the auto show season. I can't wait for news to start flowing about the upcoming auto shows. Thanks for the thread 2b2!

^^^ belated You'reWelcome, scford

...Nothing- 2013 LAIAS...

...I wonder if they'll show a concept of one of those Mustang based Lincolns. :toetap:
so
Do you mean if they show the MKC at Pebbly Beach then it WON'T be at LA?
OR do you just mean it won't count if the MKC is there too, N.R.?
&
I don't expect the LincStang before LAIAS2014 at the earliest...'course that's a guess

&
I'm still lighting candles for
LA**: final current Mustang Anniversary Edition +PLUS+ SOMEthing for the nextgen
then
NAIAS: nextgen S550 2014½ Anniversary Collectors' Edition
and
NYC***: full initial 2015my Mustang lineup

** agree about the Edge in LA but don't believe they'll debut the MKX at the same show (inviting/demanding comparisons)
*** Wings said we'll see the (a?) MKS by the end of March - - I STILL want to know if it's on the new CD4+3 platform ...IF NOT and it's 'just' a new tophat, I'd vote for Chicago, where it's built!
(& what about the Taurus?)

also
thinking we get the MCE'd Focus somewhere

Re: pre-Autoshow speculation thread

^ imho the MKC SCREAMS L.A.
*if* we were talking a the allnew ultralight Navi, then I could see LA but not the current-MCE unless they work in a usurping-the-Flex 3.5EB kind of thing = a higher-than-Fwd-possible HP like 450-490 might just do it
(iirc the Flex is a hit in Cali)

for the PBC, I'm still thinking it could be more about the Bespoke Program than any a particular vehicle ... IF they show it

&
I added the Cadillac Glamour Concept for the PBC
if anyone knows-or-finds competitor debuts, feel free to post them

Agree 2b2, the navi is mce and not a new one i dont image it debuting in pbc.... an all new navi ( the navi that will be like the range rover) could be a good debutt in pbc....as for mkc i think it will debut in la, only if it is really close to the concept i see it debuting in pbc ( a direct rival of the evoque)

Re: pre-Autoshow speculation thread

^ thinking of the production MKC + MCE'd Navi + MKZ all in Bespoke Program trim could make a NICE showing at the PBC
not sure the Z by itself would cut it

&
just came across a not-brand new thread at Mustang6g
"Ford will be (once again) having the 2011 Evos concept on display at the Salon Privé car show in London from September 4-6..."
&
from TopSpeed
"...may be the European primer show for the next-gen Ford Mustang’s launch.

The reason we say this is because Ford has chosen to resurrect the 2011 Evos Concept car for display at Salon Privé, which takes place on September 4th through 6th in London. This announcement aligns perfectly with the fact that the new Mustang will be based heavily on the Evos and that the new Mustang will be the model’s first crack at the European market, leading us to wonder if the new Mustang’s auto show tour will follow directly behind the Evo’s arrival at Salon Privé..."

so
wondering if they could possibly bring the EVOS over for LA??
I DID get to see the Giugiaro Mustang concept there and it had a large, very enthusiastic crowd around constantly;
the EVOS might be a way of "lighting the S550 torch" without giving anything away (or hurting the last several months of 2014my sales)

--- Ford: Taurus?
--- Lincoln: MKS
--- Cadillac: SRX?

On autonews.com, the SRX and 3-row are listed in the same year but seperately, but the SRX is reportedly going to live alongside the next iteration of Lambdas... So, I'm thinking they're one in the same.

http://www.autonews.com/assets/pdf/future/GM2012.PDF

Their plate seems loaded with the Glamour concept, the recent Escalade debut, the forthcoming ATS coupe, and the recent CTS production debut. Will they ride the crest of this momentum out further with more launches and debuts and possibly muddle the importance of them by not giving the Glamour and Escalade at least time to sink in?

Perhaps they will continue to ride the wave of debuts, but will debut the ATS coupe as a technically "new" model, even though it's just a body variant? Maybe alongside a V version of the sedan? Or will they go full bore and debut the SRX in Detroit (if AN is right)? The ATS still has a Vsport version left to debut, perhaps it will debut the Vsport trim coupe?

Debuting a Vsport trim, the V, and the coupe would put at least (1) ATS Vsport sedan 2) ATS Vsport coupe 3) ATS coupe 4) ATS-V sedan) 4 ATS models on the floor at Detroit. Sounds good for a model with stalling sales.

GM still has to debut their new V6. I'm thinking they'll debut it alongside the ATS Vsport and rename the 3.6 the Vsport trim. The 2.0 and 3.6 are far too close in performance and the new V6 is coming. Sounds like a perfect setup.

The SRX and "3-row crossover," which I expect to be the SRX, need to find a home.

Ford/Lincoln:
http://www.autonews.com/assets/pdf/future/ford2012.PDF

Ford apparently has the Focus and Taurus/MKS outside of the Mustang and F150 debuts.

Focus, I don't know much about, but the Taurus can't debut at Detroit, lest it be overshadowed by the massive potential debuts of the Mustang and F150.

Lincoln's CA party apparently being at PBC says to me the Navigator and MKC will show up there. That leaves the MKS and MKX.

With no Detroit debut so far for Lincoln and the MKX and MKS/Taurus still up in the air, I think maybe the MKS will be shown in concept form at Detroit with the production MKS and Taurus showing up together at NY. The MKX might be shown in concept? at the LA show alongside the production Edge, with a production debut at Detroit.

I don't know nearly enough or as much about F/L as I do about GM, but those are my best guesses.

Detroit 2014 looks like it's Ford's show. It'll be a great year for both Ford and Lincoln.

The MKC and Navigator will probably be PBC. MKZ probably not, but maybe in Bespoke trim.

The problem I have with the Bespoke trim debuting at PBC is that these people aren't automotive journalists. Bespoke is more of an LA or better yet, Detroit debut.

It's not emotionally impactful enough for a PBC debut, plus it saves ammunition for Lincoln.

Detroit having the Mustang, F150, MKS concept, MKX production, PLUS Navigator, MKC and MKZ all together would be a big showing for FMC.

PLUS after you debuted one of the biggest debuts yet in the Navigator, showing IT and the rest of your Lincoln lineup in Bespoke trim and introducing that new feature for the brand would be a positively spectacular showing alongside that of your new large sedan.

^ Hi sfbreh & TY for GM stuff ... tho I'll wait for the caffeine to kick in before processing your post

Agree about Navi/Exped but I beg to differ about the demographic. After living in a farily trendy area within Cali, it's not all like that, in fact the red..., umm non-trendy percentage is pretty darn high and no only in rural areas.
I say Cali reflects our divided-against-itself nation - just the non-trendy segment doesn't get hardly any Press.

I bet:
Peeble beach: nothing from Lincoln and Ford
LA: Ford Edge
Detroit: Ford F-150, Expedition refreshed
Lincoln MK C, Navigator refreshed, MK S concept
NY: Ford Mustang
Lincoln MK X
interesting, F.L.
technically that does match what we've been told about the X being the very-next NEW vehicle after the C

yeah-DEPENDING
- on when it's going on sale (ie early VS late cy2015)
OR

- if they do a concept version first (to mitigate cuLtureshock
)

I COMPLETELY disagree, sfbreh
-- WHO better to show Bespoke to than the IN-crowd (as "in the money")
-- imho interiors do NOT come across fully in pix (or WORDS) which are the Media's umm 'mediums'
-- I'm still (nearly constantly) thinking about Bespoke (except when I'm chopping S550's), I see the PBC as a "first fitting" of its *concept* to the potential customers
(willing to bet Lincoln cossets them with the velvetglove/champagne routine and private presentations/interrogations)
so possibly swatches & virtual tours will be equally important & any vehicles at the Concours could be more subtly-different from initial production versions
((imho this might be the steepest part of FLincMoCo's learning curve - really hope they don't 'gaffe'))

...PLUS after you debuted one of the biggest debuts yet in the Navigator, showing IT and the rest of your Lincoln lineup in Bespoke trim and introducing that new feature for the brand would be a positively spectacular showing alongside that of your new large sedan.
remember the "real" NewNavi won'r be out for about 2 years yet
AT THAT TIME
YES,
showing a *full* Bespoke on 2016my Lincolns WILL BE '''positively spectacular'''

...Detroit having the Mustang, F150, MKS concept, MKX production, PLUS Navigator, MKC and MKZ all together would be a big showing for FMC...
imho just seeing those models' names together like ^that
brings home (to me) the different 'statuses' of Ford-vs-Lincoln
Mustang & F-150 = core identity icons, established & concrete
MKS concept, MKC, gen2 MKX, Navigator MCE, and MKZ = sounds like still searching on the way to re-inventing, trying to prove TO THEMSELVES what they're going to be all about
tho
starting to demonstrate direction & potential

&
still "chewing" on your GM posting

edit/copy
just checked (for sfbreh) bbfleet.com & Vancefleet.com,
both still say 8/19/13 for the 2014my Navi production start
...
make that all THREE, just checked "phharvall"
BUT
also noticed the MKX & Edge...ie 2014my's start up is NOV 18

they gotta cut this lateLate **** out
first time is accident,
second is co-incidence
but
third time is enemy action

A successful and impactful showing at Pebble Beach needs to amplify the audience's emotions about a particular subject and have them associate that with the brand. Droning on about data and figures and blah blah blah is all great when you get paid to report on it. When you go to Pebble Beach because you want to have a good time, you expect to be entertained. You expect pleasure out of the experience.

Making the centerpiece of your showing something highly emotional and leaving the data to the journalists is what you want to do. This is the kind of event where when Cadillac showed the Ciel, millionaires were flat out asking how much the car was going to cost on the spot.

The MKC would make a great sideshow to a very impressive and emotive Navigator, perhaps already showing a bespoke interior. Throwing out power figures and some minor details about advanced powertrains and customization options for the bespoke program is a great introduction for it.

Personally, I would stick to concepts. It's less to live up to but can evoke a greater emotional reaction through a lack of required feasibility.

That's fair on the names. Ford is highly established and very strong, Lincoln is still searching. Different kinds of brands, though. Lincoln needs to establish itself as a brand before it can establish new ones like Continental.

Those production dates are miiiighty close...
