With the MK4 Focus coming to us tomorrow, it's time for me to start thinking about the configuration of MK4 I will be trading in my Sonata for mid to late next year as we hear more details about the all-new Focus. Though it's coming from China, like I said, I'm willing to give it a go. It seems pretty cool looking.

I also stated that in case we don't get it for whatever reason, here are my back up options that are within the $20,000- low $40,000 range.

2019 Mercedes A-Class Sedan
2019 Mazda 3 Sedan
2019 Cruze RS Sedan or Diesel Automatic Sedan
2019 Audi A3
2019 Volvo S40

In this thread, we will go from the beginning to end to see what I end up with :)

I will be sharing new information as it comes in.

Feel free to give me suggestions and ideas.

[I want a decently roomy, sporty compact sedan. My 2015 Sonata is too large and underpowered for my liking.]

No, these are new, upcoming models that have not come out yet. I will be doing that later this year to next year.

I've brought this up earlier, and this may push my car buying a little further back, but I am wondering if the MK4 will get an EcoBlue engine in the US, because I forgot to mention, with the Cruze, I'm debating between the RS Premier and the Diesel Automatic Cruze (MPG). An EcoBlue Focus would be an automatic yes for me.

I think the diesel Focus in North America is very high possibility. With Europe turning away from diesel, Ford is going to have to sell these new engines somewhere, and in as many vehicles across the line up as possible.

Thoroughly disappointed with this mess. But it doesn't look as if the others designs are any better for my liking. As I expected the ACTIVE suits this new roly poly, vertically nothing blends disruptive mess the best.

i like it! It looks MUCH BETTER than the Mk3 inside and out. It seams like Ford is going through some cycles. Mk1 = BOLD, mk2 (EU) = just plain conservative, Mk3 = BOLD yet not beautiful, now Mk4, conservative yet elegant

I hope that brown in the first picture makes it here. The other pictures appear to be Diffused Silver, which also looks okay.

Only one color has been confirmed so far for the US:

• Diffused Silver

Not to say there won't be other colors, just that the others could be anything with any name. I've posted in the Colors thread what Europe has, but I don't know how much of that will transfer over here.

Based on Europe's order guide (and relinked from my color thread), here are their colors:

Blazer Blue
Blue Metallic
Caribou
Dark Mulberry
Desert Island Blue
Diffused Silver
Frozen White
Magnetic
Moondust Silver
Orange Glow
Race Red
Ruby Red
Shadow Black

My color options would be narrowed down to

• Caribou
• Frozen (or Platinum) White
• Diffused Silver
(MAYBE?)• Ruby Red

As Far as trims go (Based on Europe):

Trend = S
Ambiente = SE
ST-Line = SES?
Active (New)
Titanium = Titanium
Vignale = Platinum

Narrowing it down here would be my pick:

• (highest possible) SE (with cloth)
• SES with everything <---- Really hoping for this one because of partial cloth/leather, also this is the most likely candidate for the EcoBlue engine.
• Titanium (if highest model) with everything
• Platinum (if highest model) with everything

This photoshop was very last minute, but here are some colors I would be interested in:

(dark) Green
White Platinum
Magma Red
Caribou
Some Yellow (like Electric Spice that used to be offered)

I was looking for an article that mentioned the reduction in configurations:

https://www.torquenews.com/3768/why-ford-going-global-2019-ford-focus

Fewer Choices

As part of its plan to be able to build cars more efficiently, Ford is slashing the number of configurations that it will offer. In its statement, Ford says, “Ford has reduced the number of orderable configurations by as much as 92 percent versus the previous Focus, reducing from up to 360 configurations to as few as 26, depending on the global market.” Fewer changes mean quicker production times and fewer mistakes.
I don't know if this is a global reduction or just the US, but anyway:

26 configurations leads me to believe that the US Focus will only have 2 trim options. (Sporty and Luxury)

• ST-Line (SES. I doubt they will call it ST-Line in the US)
• Titanium

If this is the case I would probably go for the ST-Line. It's still going to get CoPilot360, as Ford said all Focus models will have it. (Can't remember the source)

Most likely will go for the sedan, but I'm still debating on the hatch.

I might choose that color if I get an A-Class. Still want brown though. I like the two-material seats, I would prefer a lighter option though.

I want the lowest spec that will give me that steering wheel. I don't like the other one.

If the Kai concept was any indication, the 2020 Mazda 3 is going to be gorgeous in both hatch and sedan form. And with Mazda's aspirations to move upmarket, the interior should punch above its price class, too. Throw in the available Skyactiv-X HCCI engine, and it should be a compelling package.

I think I'm liking the A-Class. I can get into the luxury small sedan market without a luxury price. I've heard it's going to be a lot more reliable and refined than the CLA.

I would have loved a Focus... Oh well... I think I'm going to narrow down my options to the Cruze and A Class.
when's your timeframe again?
