Spied: Hyundai's Prius-fighting dedicated hybrid
Leftlane

Hyundai's long-rumored Toyota Prius fighter has finally broken cover. Our spy photographers spotted Hyundai's first-ever dedicated hybrid vehicle as it was being transported to the Arctic Circle for cold weather testing.

Though still covered in camouflage, it's clear that Hyundai's hybrid-only model will mimic the Prius' wedge-like shape. Like the Prius, the Hyundai hybrid is expected to be offered as a five-door hatchback, although more body styles could be offered in the future.

It looks like Toyota nailed the wedge shape to get the best aerodynamics, so it's up to the competition to beat Toyota with the materials, drivetrain and MPG.

I expect the new Ford hybrid to have a similar shape.

Is there NO other shape that can get good MPGs??????
The Wedge Wins! Almost 90 degree angle up the front to push through the air, almost flat sides, long narrow body so the air can glide off the vehicle. Along with a mostly sealed underbody.
