"So how does a special Chinese-market model fit in with "One Ford", the company's plan to offer a single lineup of vehicles around the world? Quite well, actually: As a variant of the Focus, the Escort probably didn't cost much to develop -- and it can almost certainly be built on the same assembly line, using many of the same parts under the skin."

It does seem obvious with Ford in the process of moving to just 9 platforms globally, that the New Escort would use the current c-segment platform, and not another older platform. Also once the wheelbase dimensions are released, it should tell what the next gen Focus wheelbase will be. China is the #1 auto market and is expected to get a new wheelbase first.

Corolla is now at 106.3" and Civic is at 105.1, with current Focus at 104.3". Looking at the Escort, it looks like the wheelbase is close to the Corolla.

I favor manufacturing the Escort in the U.S., replacing the Focus and Fiesta sedans, and keeping only the Focus and Fiesta hatchbacks. The Escort's roominess will make it more competitive with the Corolla, Cruze, Civic, Elantra, etc.

Here is a bit more detail about the China only Escort that is actually a bit larger than the global Focus than expected. I has a wheelbase of 105.7, which is longer than the global Focus Sedan(104.3) and larger than the new Civic, and just .6 shorter than the Corolla. It's also 180.5 inches long while the current global Focus at 178.5, and has the same width at 71.8, however the Escort has larger front track at 61.4(61.1 US Focus), and 60.9 rear (US Focus 60.1).

Price:
Escort base price range from $15,465 to $19,140. All with base 1.5L EcoBoost and 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission. Compared with the global Focus starting at $19,156 to $24,747 for the 1.6Ti-VCT model, and $27,144 for the 2.0GDi gasoline 6 speed automatic Flagship Sedan.

The global Fiesta sedan base price range from $12,765 to $17,877 with the 1.5L Duratec engine.

Looking at the US Fiesta and Focus, it looks like for the Chinese market, the Fiesta was pushed down $1k and Focus moved up $2k to make room for the Escort in the middle.

Also, the last gen Mondeo has been renamed Ford Winning, while the last gen Focus is now the Classic Ford Focus. China does not have the 2015 Focus refresh yet.

There is a new Focus coming for MY2017/18 that will change all that. Wheelbase can be increased by pushing the wheels further to the edges with shorter overhangs and offering more rear legroom, while the cars overall length does not change much at all. I expect it will look more like a small Fusion/Mondeo sedan.

Hopefully they do that, it would be a step in the right direction.
I guess they can do the same for the next Fiesta too.
