Toyota Offers Highest Incentives for March
March auto sales is expected to increase overall due to better weather conditions and fleet orders being filled that could not during the snowy conditions. Looking at Ford's primary competition for the Fusion and Focus, it's Toyota that is expecting to report a big boost in March sales for 3 models. Camry, Corolla and Tacoma.
It seems Toyota is burning some of their devalued yen cash in March, to offer the highest incentives with their 'whatever it takes' $1,000 off incentives, offering the lowest lease rates in an effort to move the Camry and Corolla into the #1 spot.
Fusion already had a transaction price over $2,500 higher than the Camry, and now Fusion should be at over $3500 with Camry's additional $1,000 lease offer discount.
YTD, Altima is at #1 for midsize sedans, with Corolla holding on to the #1 spot. But the new $1,000 drop in lease down payment should help Toyota move more units to challenge Altima.
Below are current incentives as of today:
- Camry and Corolla are at the same $199/mo with $999 Down.
- Camry Hybrid at $279/mo with $999 Down.
- Tacoma at $289/mo with $999 Down.
Prius sales should be flat as incentives are not as extreme as the Camry and Corolla.
Honda and Nissan are holding to standard incentives from last quarter:
- Civic at $159/mo and $1,999 Down
- Accord at $199/mo and $1,999 Down
- Sentra at $159/mo and $2,399 Down
- Altima at $189/mo and $2,699 Down
With Ford holding at the lowest incentives and highest profit margin across the board:
- Focus at $169/mo with $2,059 Down
- Fusion at 199/mo with $2,539 Down
- Fusion Hybrid at $279/mo with $2,999 Down
Fusion entered March at just 724 units behind #3 Accord with strong momentum. Ford expects and additional March sales increase of about 10% after fulfilling help fleet sales that could not be filled due to snowy weather in Feb.
March should be a big month for Fusion. 2013 March Fusion sales were 30,284.
Fusion Hybrid has outsold Camry Hybrid for the past 4 months. We will soon find out if Toyota's $2,000 lease discount is able to slow Fusion Hybrid's momentum.
