A New Small Truck in the Cards?
June 27, 2012
By: Austin Rutherford

The Ford Motor Company is hard at work enhancing their commercial vehicle offerings in North America and around the world. A new Ford Cargo debuted last year in South America and the all-new T6 Ranger is currently debuting throughout the world. The updated F-Series F-150 and Super Duty will also start sales later this year in their markets. Likewise, Europe is setting up on wiping the slate clean with three new Transit utility vans: Transit Connect, Transit Custom, and Transit.

Building upon this family, Ford has recently trademarked with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the moniker "Transit Courier."

The Ford Courier nameplate has existed on numerous vehicles over the past 60 years both here in North America and throughout the world. Currently, the name is only given to a third generation Ford Fiesta-based sub-compact truck built in Brazil. Production of this vehicle is scheduled to end next year.

It is unclear at this time what type of vehicle the "Transit Courier" will be. Several educated guesses could be made. It could be the cut-away for the Transit (pictured above) or a cut-away for another member of "Transit." It could also be the rumored sub-compact utility van or a next generation sub-compact truck.

Whatever the case may be, the Ford brand will end up with one of the strongest global commercial vehicle lineups. One wonders where they will go from there.
