Darn. I was hoping for some positive news about a replacement for the MKZ. Darn.

On my 5th Lincoln in a row, having bought a 2019 MKZ-Hybrid Reserve II on 22 December 2018.

Well, it predates the Genesis brand (remember, the current G80 debuted as the Hyundai Genesis before they made Genesis a standalone brand).

With Ford publicly stating that the European Mondeo will get revised interior/exterior and new powertrains/hybrid...it will help spread costs around if they use it on a refreshed MKZ in the USA and China. Hope is still alive for the Lincoln sedans.

Except they're going to change the factory producing MKZs to something else. Continental has a better chance of living on since it's produced at Flat Rock alongside Mustang.

Especially if the NG of both are on the same platform.

Couldn’t the Flat Rock plant be the location for producing the (new?) MKZ (alongside the Mustang) if production of the Continental is ended? Not trying to be a jerk—I’m honestly asking: if the Continental is discontinued, what would stop the MKZ from taking its place and being produced at Flat Rock?

I don't think there's anything the Fusion was also being built at Flat Rock

An article about the Conti getting killed off soon, so assume that Z will be as well. Makes me sad, Lincoln is just another brand off my list.

My point was more about the current gen sticking around for another few years - Conti would over MKZ because Hermosillo is going to be switched over to completely different products, while Flat Rock will stay as is for another few years.....at least until the Mustang is redesigned - then I think we'll see Conti (in it's current form) die - whether it's replaced will be another question.

Re: Spied! Is the 2020 Lincoln MKZ?

Jalopnik is also basing some of their info on forum scuttlebutt at the factory, if that's their insider info it can be unreliable.

This is the way I generally look at it.

Continental is due for a 2020 or 2021 MCE...if it doesn't get it or we don't see it running around, then that's your first clue. A new CD6 Continental wouldn't really be due until 2023 once the current vehicle has run its lifecycle. MKZ is probably the bigger uncertainty, if a new one is on the way we should know by now.

Everybody tells me Conti CD6 was cancelled and I see absolutely no evidence it's in development on any of those platform charts. The biggest issue for Conti in China is that Ford can't Hybridize it or Plug it in for local production, so that may have accelerated its demise to 2020. The US isn't buying, Tariffs are squeezing, and China is clamping down...so it's hard to imagine Conti having a way out without a major investment like CD6. So yeah, the chances are NOT getting better. It does' help that Lincoln has to make way for Ford priorities since Lincoln is using Ford plants and resources.
