From Grand Central in 2012 on my way to the NYIAS

Image

Kind of a mouthful but could work.
Oh God that's a horrible name, I'm glad they didn't go that route.

I don't mind Premiere, or Cosmopolitan but I think Lincoln should be careful about using "old" sounding names. I can't imagine very many people under the age of 50 relishing in the fact that they drive a "Lincoln Contrarian".

My ideal named lineup:

Sedans

Lincoln Town Car
Lincoln Continental
Lincoln Sentinel (MKZ)
Lincoln Ace (Compact Sedan)

SUVs

Navigator
Navigator Sport (MKT)
Aviator (MKX)
Aviatrix (MKC)

Coupes/Convertibles

Mark (#) - Large
Mark (#) - Mid
Mark (#) - Compact

Lincoln models of the past are Capri, Premiere and Cosmopolitan. Names from the 50's
Premiere can't be used as that's a trim level.

Both Capri and Cosmopolitan sound old and I don't think would be received well.

Personally I still would like the MKZ renamed back to the Zephyr. It's a historical name, would be an easy transition because of the "Z", and I think it sounds cool! I rebadged my 2016 MKZ Hybrid as a "ZEPHYR" using new old stock badging from 2006, and I've gotten a lot of compliments!

I don't care what they call it, I'm just glad they're ditching the meaningless alphanumeric naming! I'm most looking forward to the S650 based Mark IX!!

With the sharp drop in Focus and Fusion sales and the MKZ replacement probably moving to Flat Rock (if it's even being replaced at all), Ford can now easily produce both the Focus and Fusion at Hermosillo with very little capacity increase at all.

However, Autoline was also the same source for the rumor a few months ago that Chrysler wouldn't produce a Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, so Autoline may not be the best source of future produce information.

No, no, no. Mark # is supposed to represent the generation not size. Next in line is 9 or IX. If they want to do a large coupe they can always use the Town Coupe name which was a coupe version of the Town Car or come up with a new name for the others but the Mark Series is one of the oldest names and was Lincoln's most expensive model and should be treated special.

Capri reminds me of women's pants and Cosmopolitan reminds me of a woman's magazine.

I was bored so I email Lincoln Motor Company and explained to them the stories around the web in regards to the Z, here is the response:

Hi Mr. Campbell,
This is Ben from Lincoln's Client Relationship Center. I had the opportunity to read your email regarding your interest in the future of the Lincoln MKZ.
We are happy about your interest in Lincoln and the MKZ. While I do understand that the automotive press can speculate about a vehicle's future, there are no plans to discontinue the MKZ. While we do know that sedan sales have slowed in recent years, the MKZ still competes well in its class. We appreciate the time you have taken to write us.
Thank you for contacting Lincoln Motor Company,
Sincerely,
Ben W.

I bolded the ones I like.

I also like Blackwood, but I think that could be a really cool name for a Black Label theme, rather than a model. Something with some sort of exotic black wood (obviously) with brushed aluminum accents or something.

That's what I'd expect their response to be.

Premier could be used for an entry level smaller car. The Premier trim level could be renamed signature. I agree that Capri/Cosmo needs to stay in the past. Machete might be a good name for a LincStang.
Hmm......what about just naming a model Lincoln Signature instead?

Re: Machete - someone would complain that it promotes violence :rolleyes

Capri doesn't work because it was most recently a European sourced small, somewhat sporty Mercury coupe. While the Mercury was nice enough for what it was I still don't like the idea of any correlation between it and Lincoln. On the other hand I'm old, the younger buyers Lincoln seeks probably don't remember that car.

With regard to Cosmopolitan, I do like how it fits well with Continental in terms of image. Like you though I think of the magazine whenever I hear it which honestly could be a very good thing for Lincoln. If it were used on a vehicle designed with women in mind, I'm thinking CUV here, I think the connection could be valuable.

In the end I just don't care so long as we get names!

I love the Sentinel name but to me it evokes an aggressive image which may not be well suited to Lincoln. Unless Lincoln puts out a serious performance vehicle I would rather see that name used by Ford, though it would be perfect for an Audi R8, Acura NSX like vehicle with a Lincoln badge!

I think Premiere works better as a model than Signature. Executive and Signature were trims on Lincolns for a long time.

I also like the Contempra name I think that could work for something like the MKC.

Contempra makes me think of bananas tempura haha.

It's worth noting Lincoln had some other names during the 20s and 30s based off the coach builders like Fleetwood, Brougham, Phaeton which they obviously cannot use.

imho Capri or Cosmo would make a great [BL] theme name...
...esp if they do a PINK one :angel

I still like Constellation for sumthing...tho Not a littlest-Lincoln
&
tho still think using the old FORDish name, Zodiac, is viable,
have been leaning towards just "STAR" for the STARstangs...could be suffix'ed for more than one bodystyle
STAR-SS sportsedan
STAR-CC coupe-cabrio
STAR-forgot/not awake yet sportbrake
STAR-forgot/not awake yet Cuv-ish: raised sportbrake
&
swiping: Akirby in the BON Z-Disc thread Posted Today
I think there is still room for 2 luxury sedans if for no other reason than price point. They could be planning to do a coupe/convertible/sedan like Audi and BMW using CD6 (I still think Mustang moves to CD6) with a larger Continental which would be sedan only.
If they consolidated the CD6 car production to FRAP (and if that included the next gen Fusion) that would free up Hermosillo for Focus and Escape. CD6 utilities would go to CAP and/or OAP.
