Ford Kuga gets new engines, PowerShift - LeftlaneNews

Although it has barely been on sale for two years, Ford’s Kuga small SUV has been given revised powertrains and the automaker’s advanced PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission for the 2011 model year.

The Kuga, which is likely to be sold in North America in the future as a replacement for the aging Escape, will now offer a 161 and 138 horsepower variants of the automaker’s 2.0-liter turbodiesel Duratorq four-cylinder engine.

The lower output powertrain will be available with either front or all-wheel-drive, while the more powerful model will only be offered with its 161 horsepower going to all four wheels. With the less powerful engine and front wheel drive, the Kuga now emits a low 156 g/km of CO2. Both all wheel drive models emit 159 g/km.

Both engines are now mated to Ford’s PowerShift dual clutch automatic transmission – a version of which is offered in North America on the Fiesta. A six-speed manual remains standard with the diesel engines.

Ford will continue to offer the Kuga with a 2.5-liter, 198-horsepower four-cylinder gas engine.

A little correction in the article, the Kuga's 198hp (200PS) 2.5 liter gas engine does not have 4-cylinders, it has 5-cylinders and its turbocharged.

I read that LAP (Louisville Assembly Plant) will be the sole assembly plant of the next Kuga MY2012 for export .Projected launch of the new vehicle is scheduled to occur late in the 4th quarter of 2011. Long term, the Kuga could also be made in Russia, mainly for the local market.
So Ford N.A. builds and exports Kuga to Europe, and Ford Europe (@Valencia,Spain) builds and exports 7 seater C-Max to North America.

LAP Last day of production for current product is 11/23/2010.

If Ford wants to launch the Kuga in Japan and Australia, they are going to need more than the US plant.

Yup, I read that the new Thai plant for the 2012 Focus is flexible and can build other models based on the Focus platform.
The Grand C-Max and Kuga would most likely be built here if/when Ford decides to sell these models in the ASEAN/ Asia-Pacific markets.
