Thanks to Mark and others that love cars.
Although Fields was not around to really make an impact at Ford, he did give us the CD6, Ford Performance, saved Lincoln, pushed for more hybrids, and quite a few other major credits. A year into his leadership, what has Hackett given us exactly?

That strikes me as real impact!

Well ... at least he hasn't "taketh away" what Fields put in place.

This is all on Richie Rich and his cronies on the board.

Time for retirement.

I really struggle to like suicide doors, because I have had them in several extended cab trucks, and was not a fan of how you had to egress/ingress when you have passengers in the 2nd row when parked next to someone. You also frequently run into a scenario, whereby if you exit together, you run into each other. Or at the very least, you have to adjust your timing. With conventional doors, everyone can get out at the same time, and move in the same direction and never any issues. And yes, I am anal about this, because I frequently cursed them out on my trucks, which were slightly worst, because you had to open one door, to access the other. Honestly, I would love it if they could make it an option in an extended wheelbase model only.

Yes I agree, it really isn't as practical as traditional doors. But these "Continental" doors are so attached to the Lincoln legacy and considered "cool" that its worth the sometime inconvenience! But this rumored addition appears to be for a very limited edition, that will basically be a limo, and the positive PR of this alone will help elevate Lincoln's cool factor (in addition to the revived Navigator and soon to arrive Aviator).

My gut is there might not be a next generation Continental sedan at all, as by the time its due to replace the current one (circa 2022, 2023?) the top end luxury sedan market might really be so small and not worth it for them. So this special edition for 2019 might be a way to come back full circle to the Continental legacy, complete with those iconic doors!

^ ya know... ...once the engineering is done, there's no reason they couldn't make aNother limited production run later - - even as the ONLY available version

& thinking about the recent reduction-of-CHOICE that imho runs Counter to computerization, imho...
...anyone know if it's possible to complete a vehicle EXCEPT for its interior?
thinking of formal black/gray/silver/white paint Only but
with a huge selection of interior colors - that would only be built AFTER the order is made - just shoved/stuffed into an existing otherwise-complete car
:nerd:

This was the 2002 Lincoln Continental Concept. It's 16 years old. At least to me, It does not look dated AT ALL. I really think Lincoln should look back at this design and make the production Continental closer to this.

With minimal changes, and keeping the suicide doors, it could still fit in the 2020s. It still looks futuristic. Just give it a full sideways touchscreen with Sync 3 and digital gauges, CoPilot safety, and LED head/taillights.

Yeah, that concept is stunning to this day. It would have been an instant classic if it was made.

How would you feel if Lincoln offered the Continental in a long wheelbase "L" model, similar to this, but standard from the factory? I think it would be a great option exclusively for Black Label. Coupled with suicide doors, it would make it stand apart more.

That's exactly what the rumored 80th Anniversary Continental L Black Label is supposed to be....a 6" wb stretch to the rear seat, with rear coach "suicide" doors, lavishly decked out, fully equipped and limited to 250 units, due out next spring.....I'm hoping we'll see it announced/debut later this month at Pebble Beach!

Also on my wish list for this model:
EXT
-unique front bumper with slightly larger grill, reaching lower into the bumper cover, with a pattern/design similar to the Aviator Preview concept. (same headlamps and hood as all others)
-front bumper also gets cleaner lower graphics, with a bright stainless, thick lower edge, similar to the Continental Concept.
-unique side rocker with thick stainless trim at lower.
-unique rear bumper with thick stainless trim lower apron.
(These above changes could carry over to the 2020 Continental as an optional package or be exclusive to all BL models)
INT
-30 way rear individual seats, similar to the front 30 way seats.
-full center console with refrigerator, pull out tray tables, full LCD screen control of seating/ect.
-power shutting rear coach doors.
-over all, a decadent and lavishly equipped rear seat approaching the Continental Concept in execution!

Love your ideas... I change only one: the front and the rear bumpers need to be covered completely in chrome... This detail will complete the perfect last edition of the Continental

If this actually happens, it seems to me that it would be the greatest waste of time, money, and engineering that they could possibly do. I hope the Continental nameplate continues on a CD6 sedan and/or coupe but lengthening the current model and adding suicide doors does nothing to address the current car's shortcomings or move Lincoln's image in the right direction, imho.

I think Lincoln really needs to look to the future, instead of trying to relive the past. And true, it would be a waste of time and effort to retrofit the current model with coach doors. No point in that at all, with the luxury leaders, like MB launching a new flagship EV sedan in the next year. Lincoln needs to get a next gen Continental on a new EV platform so it can compete with the future of luxury.
